Meet Sam: Sr. Financial Business Analyst at FMCNA
What is a typical workday like for you?
Each day is flexible and varies. However, most of my time is spent in Excel on my own, building models and reports. The hours are pretty standard hours, 9-5 give or take, with little jobs occasionally in the evenings. After work, I’ll either do various community involvement projects, study, or do applications for medical school, and then spend time with my wife.
Why did you choose to work in finance in the healthcare industry?
I wanted to be in a medicine-related business. The purpose and mission of the company is motivational to me; I’m passionate about healthcare. Additionally, the sector is also doing quite well and provides a lot of opportunity.
What is something you’re proud of accomplishing at work?
My projects relate to transforming data into information that can be used. I have designed many reports that have been adopted for regular production. I have also automated many reports that used to take a lot of time to run. For example, I noticed that we had all the inputs we needed to produce a report that would show the average time each employee spent performing a treatment. I went ahead and developed a report that shows this data at the employee level, which had previously never been looked at. The report was a hit and became a regular report that the business now uses regularly to improve operations.

How would you describe the culture in the office?
Much of my work is done alone rather than on a team, but I have made several friends at Fresenius. I think there is a good balance of work and camaraderie.
Where do you want your career to take you?
I plan to attend medical school to become a medical doctor (surgeon). FMCNA provides me with exposure to interesting financial and business concepts and keeps me looped into the medical industry. I plan to be beginning a medical residency in five years.
