Growing with Fresenius: A Manager Gives Internship Insight
Gary understands the wealth of opportunity for career development at Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA). Gary is a Clinic Manager in Nashville, and has experienced what it means to be part of a company that is dedicated to the growth of its employees. He is tasked with overseeing and developing the interns that are under his supervision.
In his current position, Gary interacts with interns on a daily basis, and he’s passionate about training them for successful careers in medical care.
“This includes the culture/core values and the emphasis of quality care delivered by exceptionally talented healthcare professionals.” He adds, “I also measure the intern’s success by our ability as an organization to support their academic and clinical experiences by sharing our own clinic expertise and experiences with them.”
As the interns work with RNs and CCHT Preceptors every day, they learn the essentials of dialysis care. They also visit the Fresenius vascular lab, along with exploring the home therapies division. Gary notes these opportunities “broaden their perspective of dialysis and how the position of the Dialysis Nurse directly supports the life of the patients and their families.”
Some of the other daily tasks for interns include shadowing staff, obtaining vital signs of patients and evaluating the patients, under the supervision of RN Preceptors. They typically have this opportunity to interact with patients on days that aren’t class-oriented.
The internship program is a truly rewarding experience for those involved. If you want to grow with FMCNA, Gary offers one bit of advice—ask questions.
