Meet Howie

Howie Ngo is a Patient Care Technician Preceptor at one of our Fresenius Kidney Care clinics. Howie just celebrated 10 years at FMCNA and is looking forward to being with the company for even more. He was awarded a gold ring for bringing his all to work with him each and every day for a decade. And Howie seems to have enjoyed his time too. This is what he had to say on this milestone.

Let's hear what Howie has to say:

Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?

A: I wanted to work in an environment where I could leverage my personality to connect with patients and peers at work. Our patients deserve the very best in dialysis care and I knew if I was given a chance to learn how to do just that, I could be that the reason somebody smiles today, whether it be a patient or co-worker.

Q: How do you feel that your role is a “vital part” in supporting our patients and our company?

A: As a Patient Care Technician Preceptor, my role is to mentor all staff into being the best they can be. Healthcare can be a very fast-paced environment, but showing other co-workers how to have fun and still get their job done is something I am highly passionate about.

I love showing others how Healthcare does not have to be boring, and I don’t want patients to be scared when they come to our clinics. I work very hard to make it fun for both patients to come to get their treatment and colleagues to enjoy returning to work. My Healthcare leadership team has allowed me to do just that. Since being with FMCNA, I have shown others how to bring fun back into healthcare and seen patients come back in our doors with a smile and leave with one, too!

Q: Describe an experience or feeling that stands out when thinking of your career with FMCNA

A: When I think of my career with FMCNA, I feel warm and fuzzy feelings when I think of all the times I make colleagues and patients alike laugh and smile. Dialysis is hard work, but it is very rewarding work. Sometimes I see a patient that may be nervous or scared and I like to be that reason my patients and colleagues smile. Whether it’s showing a genuine interest in how their day is going or playing a game with patients and staff or simply playing some of everyone’s favorite tunes, I enjoy placing a smile on everyone’s face. I feel that my contagious personality leads to a powerful effect, spreading joy to others.

With FMCNA I have seen plenty of opportunities to professionally develop and grow and this all has afforded me the ability to be that partner in caring just for our patients, but my colleagues, too. I have learned so much about the newest technologies at Fresenius and was always taught a “no limits mindset” which has carried me far both professionally and outside of work. Ultimately, I am proud to be known as the “fun” dialysis technician that makes Healthcare fun. All in all, I truly believe if I can show my coworkers how we can take care of each other first, everything else, including patient care always follows.
