Meet Jeanine

Jeanine Zurbuch works as a Clinical Manager in one the West Virginia clinics and started her career with Fresenius over 20 years ago. Since then she has worked hard and diligently to make her clinic a 5-star clinic in quality as well as customer satisfaction. She knows what it takes to make in in this tough business which is caring.

LET’S HEAR WHAT SHANNON HAD TO SAY:

Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?

A: I was a fairly new nurse. I had worked in Long Term Care and Mental Health and I did not feel I was being challenged enough. I was not building on my knowledge base or using my critical thinking the skills. I felt I needed a challenge and I wanted to work hard and learn; Fresenius Medica Care gave me that opportunity.

Q: How do you feel that your role is a “vital part” in supporting our patients and our company?

A: I am the captain of “my ship”. The team is a well-oiled machine that functions everyday efficiently and successfully. My role is vital because every ship needs a captain, or it will sink. There needs to be someone that knows the course to take for the journey to be successful. Thru the years I have learned the regulations that need to be followed, the empathy and support our patients require as well as the financial drivers that keep our company strong and successful. I have learned so much and continue to learn every day, for that I am grateful, it was the challenge I was looking for.

Q: Describe an experience or feeling that stands out when thinking of your career with FMCNA, it could be in relation to one of our four pillars (below) or simply a story that describes why you do what you and why you choose FMCNA to do it with.

A: “I always feel safe.” In the 20 some odd years that I have been doing this recently I received the biggest compliment I have ever gotten, personally or professionally. An 85-year-old female patient told me she always felt safe in my clinic because I did such a good job ensuring everyone did their job correctly and I expected excellence from everyone. I walked out of my clinic that day prouder than I had ever walked out before, I knew I did something right. I have thought a lot about that little comment. I am not one to ponder or psychoanalyze things, I take it, smile, and move on, but for some reason I keep going back to that comment. Not feeling safe when your life is literally in someone else’s control must be terrifying, but this little lady is at peace, she does not walk thru our door scared, she is grateful. If we can make someone in her circumstance feel safe three days a week and provide a life sustaining therapy that allows her to go to weddings and see great grandchildren be born, we have done a good job. By working at FMC, I was given an opportunity to excel and create an environment that produces such positive results.

Q: Have you experienced professional growth with personal meaning in your role? If so, how?

A: I have earned a BSN and MSN as well as a CNN certification while working at Fresenius Kidney Care, all of which financially they have helped pay for. The degrees and certifications I have earned have benefitted me personally because I am someone who needs challenges, I want to excel, I want to learn. It has not only helped me become a better nurse when caring for my patients, but my daughter has seen the hard work and grit that I have put into my life and for that I am a positive role model. Side note, I use to be a girl scout leader...3 of my girl scouts has become nurses.

Q: Do you feel you or your team/department leads, innovates, succeeds? If so, how?

A: Sure, often we are asked to lead the way when new things come out. Recently we were the first in our area to launch the CritLine adapters. We have also been a 5-star clinic in quality as well as customer satisfaction. Last year we were the only clinic in WV that had both.

Q: Do you feel that your role allows you to be a partner in caring? If so, how?

A: Absolutely! We care! This is a though business, we must care merely because sometimes we care more about our patients than they do for themselves, just because they are so sick sometimes. If we care to make their experience with us positive, they might see that there is hope and they can care about themselves and their loved ones again.

I have learned so much and continue to learn every day, for that I am grateful, it was the challenge I was looking for.
