COVID-19's Impact on the Job Search process
2020 was a year filled with uncertainty and new normals. Our society adapted to a new way to educate our children, stay connected to friends and family and perform our jobs. The pandemic also changed how companies hired and how job seekers thought about starting new positions. Let's hear from one of our new Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA) colleagues, who decided to jump in with both feet and brave the new hiring process.
Meet Juvy
Juvy Laput began working for Fresenius Medical Care in July 2020 as a Nurse with our travel division. Juvy was impressed with how FMCNA took care of it's employees and patients during the COVID pandemic and wanted to do her part to help make a difference. Read on to learn more about Juvy's experience.
LET’S HEAR WHAT JUVY HAD TO SAY:
Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?
A: I met an FMCNA clinic in March as my first assignment with an agency; it was love at first site. I was so impressed with the way they handled the pandemic from medical to non medical employee; they were all doing their part to make the place safe, especially for the patients. Kudos to the management that implemented rules early on. To top it off, I have witnessed that the employees were also making more because of the pandemic and even have more benefits for family with younger kids at home. Clearly, Fresenius is setting the standard by which others in Healthcare industry are judged.
Q: The pandemic has required us to all adjust our daily routine. How are you adjusting to staying safe? Is there anything you are doing to help maintain both safety and/or connection during this time?
A: Staying safe in this pandemic is harder due to restrictions on a lot of social activities that we used to do. I just have to ask myself all the time whether whatever activity I do for my family, work, etc. is something I need to do. No more window shopping, or eating out all the time.
Q: What would you tell someone hesitant about starting a new career during this pandemic?
A: Starting a career in the medical field is not hard at all, especially these days where the country really needs us. If that is something you are passionate about, now is the time.
Q: How do you feel that your role is a "vital part" in supporting our patients and our company?
A: Knowing that I am able to support the front line and making sure they have everything they need to effectively work during these difficult times makes me feel as though I am helping to make a difference.
Q: Do you feel that your role allows you to be a partner in caring? If so, how?
A: Everybody that is working in dialysis plays a very important role in keeping it safe for workers and patients. We just have to diligently do our part in every possible way to prevent the spread of COVID or any infection for that matter. Wash hands, mask up, maintain distance, be aware of things around you, and respect others as you respect yourself.
Q: Describe an experience or feeling that stands out when thinking of your career with FMCNA?
A: I feel that I have that superpower to make things easier for my co-workers and patients. No magic tricks, just doing my part as a nurse, a mother, a friend, a daughter, a co-worker, and a sister. Life is short as we know it. It does make it easier for everybody if we treat each other with respect and a little smile and kindness will make a lot of difference.
