Meet Winston

Winston Bowen is a software engineer who was looking for an opportunity to not only learn, but also to make a real difference in his career. He signed up for the NxStage Co-Op program and not only learned more about being a skilled software engineer but about FMCNA, the organization NxStage is a Subsidiary of. Winston is a perfect example of what a successful member of the NxStage Co-Op program looks like. Learn more about his story and how he landed a full-time job with the FMCNA family, after the program.

LET’S HEAR WHAT WINSTON HAD TO SAY:

Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?

A: I joined NxStage to contribute to products that help people who suffer from renal disease survive and interact with the people they love by providing the opportunity to perform dialysis treatment on their own schedules and in the location of their choosing, in-home, on vacation, etc…

Q: How do you feel that your role is a “vital part” in supporting our patients and our company?

A: The software our team writes directly operates the machines that perform dialysis treatment

Q: Describe an experience or feeling that stands out when thinking of your career with FMCNA?

A: From day 1 as an intern, I was assigned to a project that was developing a robotic simulation of peritoneal dialysis treatment. I was thrust into a project that involved learning new software technology and a new treatment. But there was trust that I could successfully complete the assignment with plenty of support from my manager and colleagues to get to the finish line.

Following the co-op, I transitioned to a full-time employee and essentially the same process has repeated itself in different contexts. Yet, after each assignment, I walk away with a wealth of new experiences and knowledge that enables me to take on the next level challenge.

In an environment like that, I am excited to come to work every day and looking forward to what the next experience will bring. Couple that with awesome and extremely knowledgeable (while down-to-earth) co-workers. Most importantly, the software we are writing directly saves lives. Given the great work culture and the ground-breaking technologies we are introducing, I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a software engineer anywhere else.

Q: Do you feel that you have a powerful effect in your role? 

A: Yes. I'm given a lot of responsibility and am trusted to do it well.

Q: Have you experienced professional growth with personal meaning in your role? If so, how?

A: Yes. Each challenge is a little harder and after each task, I walk away with a wealth of new experiences

Q: Do you feel you or your team/department leads, innovates, succeeds? If so, how?

A: Absolutely. Great team, great culture, developing breakthrough technologies
