 Meet Drew

Drew Dunn is a Marketing Specialist at NxStage Medical, a subsidiary for Fresenius Medical Care North America. Drew participated in the 6-month NxStage program and quickly realized that she wanted to be a part of this organization once the program was over. She loves how passionate everyone at FMCNA is when it comes to caring for our patients. And it played a big part as to why she decided to pursue a career at FMCNA. Learn more about Drew's story.

LET’S HEAR WHAT DREW HAD TO SAY:

Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?

A: After participating in the six-month co-op program at NxStage Medical during my undergraduate years, I knew that I had found an incredible organization. It took me little time to see how passionate our employees are about getting our patients the care that they need and how driven they are to further our mission. I knew this was a team that I had to continue to be a part of beyond graduation.

Q: How do you feel that your role is a “vital part” in supporting our patients and our company?

A: There has been nothing more vital to my role than maintaining a connection with the patients and those who advocate for other patients. With the COVID-19 outbreak, it became more evident than ever how crucial our role is in promoting the benefits of safe access to dialysis treatment. Listening to patients recount stories of gratitude towards FMCNA motivates me to continue the work that I do. It is so impactful to hear how much patients’ lives improve upon the use of the products we provide.

Q: Describe an experience or feeling that stands out when thinking of your career with FMCNA?

A: I had the opportunity one week to listen intently to the incredible story of one patient advocate in particular. She told me how difficult it was to receive her scary diagnosis of End-Stage Renal Disease, on top of another challenging medical diagnosis months later unrelated to the other. This patient advocate imparted to me how freeing it was amidst all this pain to find a company like NxStage that provided a new method of dialysis treatment. She soon began feeling better, regaining much of her energy, and finding a renewed sense of purpose and meaning. She gained a whole new perspective on life! Fortunately, I was able to bring her into a number of our marketing campaigns to serve as an active resource for future patients looking for positive results and greater motivation going through similar difficulties. Stories like this one are why I am so motivated to promote the good work of FMCNA in the lives of patients across the globe.

Q: Do you feel that you have a powerful effect in your role? 

A: While I do not have the hands-on experience of treating patients in our clinics, I know how important it is to evangelize the type of care we provide. We are motivated by the amount of positive feedback we hear from the thousands of patients who use our products. We could not do our work without our patients, so it is especially gratifying to hear them thank us for the work that we do to revolutionize renal care.

Q: Have you experienced professional growth with personal meaning in your role?

A: Before working at NxStage, I was not sure how my work in marketing could make a real difference. Very quickly I realized that I play a pivotal role in the campaigns that promote the benefits of home dialysis care for patients across the world. I have grown in ways I did not expect, particularly in how comfortable I am working on some of our most prominent campaigns.

Q: Do you feel you or your team/department leads, innovates, succeeds?

A: My team leads each and every day! If it were not for the diligent work of FMCNA, the landscape of renal care would not look the same. We craft our marketing campaigns with great care and innovation so that more and more patients can experience the benefits of a brand new life with HHD. One of the biggest obstacles that stand between us and patients is that they do not know our products exist. Our goal is to revolutionize the world of renal care so that they can discover new modalities of dialysis. Thankfully, given the overwhelming response from our patients all over the country, we are able to achieve great success with our marketing campaigns. It’s only up from here!

Q: Do you feel that your role allows you to be a partner in caring?

A: My role allows me the privilege of being a partner in caring for the patients our company serves. Without the webinars, events, campaigns, and interactive media we provide, our patients and their families would not feel like they are a part of the FMCNA family. They look to us for communication and to feel the sense of belonging we hope to provide. Once NxStage, always NxStage.
