LET’S HEAR WHAT LANCE HAD TO SAY:
Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?
A: After completing my Doctor of Pharmacy and then supporting a GI medication for a few years in Regulatory Affairs, I was seeking an opportunity where I could better utilize my clinical background. The Medical Science Liaison role was a perfect fit to not only utilize my PharmD education but to also build on the presentation and facilitation skills I developed. While I had not considered making the move to nephrology, I was fired up about joining FMCNA after my interview. There was a clear plan for my development and opportunities where I could make a positive impact on our patients, providers, and company. After receiving the job offer, I could not have been more excited to accept and join the FMCNA team!
Q: How do you feel that your role is a “vital part” in supporting our patients and our company?
A: As an MSL, I engage in clinical discussions with all health care providers treating dialysis patients including nurses, dietitians, and nephrologists in addition to researchers. Through the course of these conversations, I can share the latest data and clinical information which may help improve patient care. Additionally, I learn about opportunities for innovation in dialysis care. These insights help FMCNA make decisions regarding research and continued investments in the improvement of patient care for current and future patients.

Q: Describe an experience or feeling that stands out when thinking of your career with FMCNA
A: During a conversation with a local dietitian, I learned of an opportunity to support the clinic's quality metrics and further improve patient outcomes. I met with the clinic staff including nurses, dietitians, patient care technicians and a nurse practitioner to present on the impact of fluid removal. About six months after my presentation, I reconnected with the dietitian at the clinic and learned that quality metrics and outcomes related to fluid management had improved. This experience illustrated how an MSL, without direct patient care, can be a partner in caring and have a powerful effect on our patients. It's our job to support those who are providing direct patient care, it is our guidance and research that can further improve the incredible job they are already doing.
Q: Do you feel you or your team/department leads, innovates, succeeds?
A: Our MSL team works hard to make impact across the entire country and support all of our kidney care clinics. We strive to be on the leading edge of science by engaging with clinicians to share the latest developments within the company and to learn about promising innovation opportunities. The relationships we build with clinicians and researchers enables FMCNA to continue to be a leader in nephrology and dialysis innovation.
