 Meet Mark

Mark Johnson is the Director of Talent Acquisition for our Fresenius Kidney Care West Division. Not only is Mark a valuable leader in our company, but he is also a proud veteran. Mark’s successful career with Fresenius Medical Care North America is built on the strong foundation of his time in the military. Mark comes from a family of military members and knows that the military has equipped him with the skills he needs to excel in his leadership role. Read on to learn how Mark's military experience positioned him for success.

LET'S HEAR WHAT MARK HAD TO SAY:

Q: Tell us about your military experience.

A: After graduating from Butler University, I enlisted in the Army after coming from a long line of military family members including my grandfather, uncle, father, and brother who all served in the US Army. My time in the Army began with basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. I was then trained as a Russian Linguist at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey CA. Not long after leaving language school, our country found itself on the brink of war in the Persian Gulf. At this time, I was trained as a Military Police Officer at Fort McClellan in Anniston, AL. I am proud to be a veteran of the first Gulf War even though I never anticipated going to war when I entered the Army during peacetime. During my service time, I was recognized as the Top Graduate at the Army’s Primary Leadership Development Course as well as the recipient of Soldier of the Year at the US Army Military Academy where I served the last 6 months of my service in the Army.

Q: What does it mean to bring your military experience to FMCNA?

A: For me, bringing my military experience to FMCNA means knowing the commitment and dedication the Army has instilled in me – and bringing that same dedication to my work each day. It means being able to lead the charge to find others like me who can also leverage their military background and skills to grow and succeed in this great company. It also means that I am committed to increasing my colleague's awareness and support on what it means to work with those with military experience and how to make sure there is always a place in our organization for them.

Q: How do you see FMCNA leveraging your experience, how do you see your experience propelling your success?

A: My military experience gave me tools that have served me and the Fresenius Kidney Care organization well. discipline, leadership, working well with teams, the motivation being a few. I am also a very early riser and have been since my Army days so I get a good workout in before the sun comes up and it starts my workday off in a positive manner.

Q: How is FMCNA committed to supporting veterans?

A: I have had the unique opportunity to start the Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) for Fresenius Kidney Care. As we continue to grow this community of veteran employees and supporters, we will be able to serve and inform our veterans of benefits available to them, provide a sense of camaraderie by networking with other veterans and participating in community service events.

Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?

A: I joined Fresenius Kidney Care to help develop and grow the Talent Acquisition team that was committed to hiring top talent to serve our patient’s needs.

Q: How do you feel that your role is a “vital part” in supporting our patients and our company?

A: I lead a large team that is entirely focused on finding the best talent to care for our patients. We have to get it right when hiring those who set the standard in treating and caring for those needing dialysis. This is what motivates me every day.

Q: Tell us more about your experience working at FMCNA.

A: I have several great stories that I could share from my time here at Fresenius Kidney Care, however, my best story is the team I work with. In the Army, I learned valuable leadership skills that have served me well during my career here and have allowed me the opportunity to provide leadership, motivation, and mentorship to an outstanding group of recruiters and managers. I feel extremely blessed to lead this group of people as they are the most talented and driven group of people I have ever worked with. The Army gave me the training on how to lead effectively and Fresenius Kidney Care has given me the opportunity to lead the best. To me, that is the experience that stands out when thinking of my time here.

Q: Do you feel that you have a powerful effect in your role?  If so, how?

A: Yes, I do. I feel responsible for bringing on the brightest, most qualified, and compassionate people in order to care for our patients. I feel that has a tremendous impact. I consider my team, myself, and my leader's significant partners in caring for our patients.
