Meet Markeda
Markeda Coleman is a Clinical Educator at FMCNA
LET’S HEAR WHAT MARKEDA HAD TO SAY:
Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?
A: I felt that it was a great opportunity to share my passion for advocating superior care for dialysis patients by entering into the role of a clinical educator. Previously, I had worked as a clinical manager and had developed a passion for the healthcare provided to ESRD patients.
Q: How do you feel that your role is a "vital part" in supporting our patients and our company?
A: My role as a Clinical Educator offers many opportunities to support our patients and FKC. I am able to role model and influence new as well as existing staff members. I fundamentally believe that education, having the ability to empathize, and a passion for patient care are attributes for all disciplines that work with our patients.
Q: Describe an experience or feeling that stands out when thinking of your career with FMCNA.
A: I am passionate about the care that we provide for dialysis patients. It was my experience as a Clinical Manager at FKC that developed the desire within me for the best outcomes, to be able to provide care that does not compromise and to have a mindset of always having the care of the patient in mind. As a CM, I had the opportunity to provide care to a patient that was homeless. It was a pleasure and a blessing to be his “dialysis nurse”. He taught me compassion, to be grateful when circumstances don’t always seem fair, and to always be thankful even when faced with a chronic illness and a shelter as a residence. I hope that I am able to embody those attributes by my career as a dialysis professional.
Q: Do you feel that you have a powerful effect on your role? If so, how?
A: Yes, I have the ability and the opportunity to effect new as well as seasoned employees every day.
Q: Have you experienced professional growth with personal meaning in your role?
A: I have experienced professional growth as I took advantage of the opportunities provided by FKC. I graduated with an associate degree in nursing. Many years later, I returned to school and achieved a BSN in nursing. This milestone was achieved by being able to receive FKC’s student reimbursement. In 2016, I completed an MSN in Nursing with a focus in education.
