Meet Monica
Monica Cobb is a General Manager of the Mitigation Division and has had a number of different titles since she first started with FMCNA 42 years ago. Monica is a great example of what a career at FMCNA can look like when you are dedicated to helping our patients even if you do not work with them directly every day. Monica retired on December 31, 2019. But her legacy at FMCNA will live on. We are honored to call her one of us!
Let's Hear What Monica Had To Say:
Q: Why did you join the FMCNA team?
A: When I was hired in 1977, I was in a Secretarial Role. I thoroughly enjoyed my position and felt that I could do more. I went back to school to pursue my degree so that I could continue to grow with the company. I always felt that Fresenius was home to me and the people that I worked with were like my second family.
Q: How do you feel that your role is a “vital part” in supporting our patients and our company?
A: As General Manager, I feel that every decision I make and advice that I give, impacts patient care. When making such decisions, I always put the patient first. Whenever I can, I will meet with patients when I visit the clinics. I think it is important that Patients know who the General Manager is and assure them that we care and understand how important it is to give them excellent quality care.
Q: Describe an experience or feeling that stands out when thinking of your career with FMCNA
A: My Journey throughout the last 42 l/2 years with Fresenius has been amazing. When I was hired as a secretary in 1977, it did not take long for me to realize that I wanted to advance my career in dialysis. I was able to continue my education, taking advantage of the Tuition Reimbursement Program while working full-time at the dialysis unit in Providence RI where I started.
After being employed for 8 years, I received my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts. One month before I graduated, I was offered an Administrative Assistant Position with the company. I worked alongside an Area Administrator for 1 year and then was promoted as Area Administrator of 2 dialysis clinics. This is where my career began.
Throughout the last 34 years, I was promoted to Area Manager, Regional Manager, Regional Vice President, Vice President of Operations Support and Vice President of Operations. I went back to school in 2005 and received my MBA, once again taking advantage of the Tuition Reimbursement Program. My most recent position as General Manager of the Mitigation Division has afforded me the opportunity to package all my years of experience and share it with my new team. I could not have asked for a better team to spend the last 7 years with. Together, we created an amazing team that is focusing on helping our struggling clinics and welcoming our new acquisition clinics into the company.
I have had the opportunity to work in many different parts of the United States in these roles. I have met and worked with some of the most dedicated superior colleagues in this company and I have had the honor to meet so many patients and families that are eternally grateful for all we do for them. Therefore, I have stayed with Fresenius all these years. Whenever I was promoted to a new position, it was a learning experience and an exciting opportunity to serve the patients and employees of this company. It was the right place for me. As I now prepare to retire at the end of the year, I have so many experiences, memories and people that I am thankful for and will forever cherish.
