Meet Tiffanie
Tiffanie Jacobson is an Associate Sales Manager in our RTG business, and when asked where her office is, she replied, “my car!” Covering her assigned territory keeps her busy, but she enjoys the daily change of scenery. Tiffanie hasn’t always been a part of RTG, she started with Fresenius as a Dietitian. She left Fresenius to gain sales experience and returned 7 years later to pursue sales - what she considers her second career. We wanted to hear her story – what drove her to make a change in her career and how she ended up back at Fresenius Medical Care.
Here is what Tiffanie had to share:
Q: What made you initially choose Fresenius Medical Care as an employer?
A: I went to school for nutrition and loved the idea of helping our dialysis patients as a Clinical Renal Dietitian. I covered multiple clinics in the North Chicago suburbs, getting to know many patients. One of the best perks was the autonomy and flexibility of schedule that I had. I had the opportunity to change my schedule, taking half days off when needed and still covering my patients. I thoroughly enjoyed my role for 7 years.
Q: What played into your decision to leave Fresenius Medical Care?
A: I really had an itch to try my hand at sales. My father is in sales, and I have his gift of gab! In order to be a part of the sales team at Fresenius, I needed to gain experience, so that is what I set off to do.
Q: You are now back at Fresenius Medical Care – how did that happen?
A: I was contacted on LinkedIn by a couple of sales reps who thought I would be great for a sales role, selling Velphoro. I already knew that Fresenius was a great company to work for, and I had stayed connected with many of my former colleagues. So even though I wasn’t actively looking, I decided to interview for the role and the Sales Manager that I spoke with 7 years ago ended up hiring me! I still give him a hard time for not hiring me the first time. I’ve been back at the company for a little over a month now, and it has been fun seeing people who I already know and getting up to speed on my training.
Q: What impacted your decision to return to Fresenius Medical Care?
A: I made lifelong connections while I was at Fresenius. I am still best friends with a dietitian that started with me 14 years ago! There are also so many lanes to choose from within the company. Even though I was burnt out on doing the clinical piece, I was able to come back under the same family umbrella in completely different role. I am able to help CMs, MSWs and Dietitians understand Velphoro, how they get it and what patient assistance programs look like. While I’m not direct patient care anymore, the experience I gained on my journey helps me see the other side and makes me successful in my new role.
Q: What would you say to someone considering a return to Fresenius Medical Care?
A: The experience that I gained during my time at Fresenius the first time and during my “gap” served me well, allowing me to come back and be successful in this new role. I also recommend staying in contact with those you work with; staying in touch meant that my former colleagues kept me in mind when there was a need at the company that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise.
Q: What are some favorite memories created along your journey?
A: One patient gave me kitty beanie baby as a thank you for giving him a dietary recommendation for acid reflux; he was so grateful for the change in his quality of life. Another patient painstakingly made me a Christmas tree, made with a glue gun, with elaborate ornaments. That gives me so much joy when I unpack it every Christmas. It’s a nice reminder that I was important in someone’s life. You forge relationships/friendships with patients & colleagues, and you see them as more than family.
